Have You got the Blues?

Baby Blues (Kirkman and Scott)
Shared by Julia

I first discovered this comic strip in the Straits Times Life! in 2003. Then I started to read Baby Blues books. I don't recommend this for those planning to have kids as it will definitely scare them...Hahahaha...The latest in the series is Playmate: Category 5 (Baby Blues Scrapbook #19)

It's a great stress reliever and what I love most are the illustrations which are done marvellously. It's hysterically funny and uncannily true to life. You can laugh at yourself and get your perspective back. Two thumbs up!! I would also recommend Foxtrot for those smart-alecky people.

  • Hi,

I love these comics as well...and Calvin & Hobbes (esp his morbid snow sculptures). Discovered a new comic book titled "Agnes: I'm too young to look this hot"(by Tony Cochran)..which is about a girl who stays with her grandmother in a trailer park. Food and money (or rather the lack of both)are a constant theme and it is dealt in a very funny way. Visit http://www.toonville.com/main.asp?brand=aolsvc.toonville.aol.com&fnum=293 to read more..I highly recommend ;-)

  • When I was younger, Baby Blues didn't really appeal to me. They were a regular feature in the Sunday comic pages (I read them way, way before 2003. Obviously I'm MUCH older than Julia). But reading them now, I get a different perspective. I don't go out of my way to borrow them, but would read them if I come across them. Part of the appeal is that this series grows with you -- you watch Zoe and her kid brother grow and develop (I believe the parents are expecting their 3rd child?)

For those who like Baby Blues & Foxtrot, I suspect you'll like the "For Better of For Worse" series by Lynn Johnston. Like Baby Blues, it revolves around a family (Canadian, I think) and the characters literally grows up and grows old. It's more reflective and is more of a social commentary than humour per se. I remember one book where the son discovered that his best friend was gay. It dealt with the issue in a non-judgemental way. The series is in its 25th year I think.

  • "Hickory Tickory Dock, someone stole my sock, I can't find it and now it's lost, Hickory Tickory Dock" - Can you guess who said this? Well, I never gotten to read Baby Blues comics until recently. Coincidently, this new comic book lies attractively on the new arrival trolley, so I just picked it up and read and what title is this? Sorry I can't remember ;-( Is just one of the Baby Blues series. But I must admit that it really made me laugh throughout my train journey from home to work and vice versa.
